Initial Set Up

The Dynam Vortex heli owner manual spells out exactly what needs to be done step by step for initial set up including how to adjust the aileron and elevator control push rods, balancing the center of gravity (CG) and how to track the main blades. The electronic components were installed and set by the factory and adjusted for basic flying. I took off the front canopy and did a few checks. The only thing that I wanted to point out was the front part of the back body was very close to swashplate ball links which could interfere with swashplate movement (please see picture). So, I opened up the front part of the back body just enough to give room for swashplate to move freely.  Everything else was fine. I didn’t have to do any mechanical adjustments. All I had to do was adjusting the rudder, aileron and elevator trims and got it fly in 5 minutes.

Indoor Fly Test

Without wasting the time, I started to spin up the Dynam Vortex in my living room without the front canopy on. I turned on the transmitter and then connected the battery. The 4 in 1 was armed with no problem. I lift it up a little bit and it drifted to the left. I landed and then adjusted the aileron trim a little bit more. After a few more adjustments, I decided to have some pictures taken. The Dynam Vortex heli flew nicely without any major problem. The only thing I noticed was it was a little sluggish at first when I moved it around or corrected the rudder. A couple drops of Trinity oil and adjustment took care of the problem. So, yes this little coaxial heli is flying! If your controls are good, you don’t have to have a very big living room to entertain yourself with this little heli.

Outside Fly Test

It was still early in the morning so I decided to go to my back yard before the wind started to pick up. After I put the front canopy back to get ready to fly, I was having a problem connecting the battery and the receiver connectors. The wire from the battery got caught up inside the canopy. I wished the battery connector wire was just a little longer. Besides that, this little yellow Dynam Vortex heli took off and flew like a Coast Guard helicopter! I did some figure 8, circles and nose-in hovers. At one point, I pushed it as high as the roof of my 2 story home and the wind suddenly started to catch on. I managed to bring it down safely. I took it back to my living room and I finished the pack with a few more flights. The motors were hot but it was stated in the owner manual, so I did not have to worry about that. The Dynam Vortex flies great outside as you have more room to move it around but please watch out the unexpected strong wind!
