Test Flight

When I first got my MX400, people said that MX400 is stable and a Trex450 was said to be twitchier. It came to my surprise that Trex450S CF is also very stable. First, I thought it was because the long flybar that came with the Trex450S CF kit. After my first crash, I replaced the long flybar with the regular Trex450 XL flybar, it is still stable. I can hover it in my living room (please see video below) with a little effort keeping it from crashing into my sofas. The helicopter seems to respond well and quickly to my throttle stick move. Other than the stable flying characteristic, the helicopter performs well. I have no complaint about this helicopter.

Plus and Minus

Plus

  • Price is reasonable
  • Stable flight characteristic
  • Part and upgrade options are plenty
  • 85% factory assembled
  • Align's proven performance
  • Strong CF frames

Minus

  • Flybar control arms are very week
  • Flybar set defect (at the time of writing. This may be corrected with later kits by Align)

Final thoughts

Reasonable price, stability, part upgrade options, proven flight performance and CR frames make the Trex450S CF kit one of the best helicopters in the today RC helicopter market. It is the same design as Trex450 XL, SA or SE. If you are going to buy a Trex450XL, SA or SE kit and like CF frames, include Trex450S CF for your research or on your watch list; especially if you are a beginner. It has all what Trex450 SE does mechanically including CCPM. You can upgrade it later on with a better motor and batteries when you become proficient with it and want to push it to the limit. I personally like Trex450S CF over Trex450SE for the fact that it allows me to select upgrade only the critical parts and save some money. Final thought - Trex450S CF is a great helicopter and I am very confident to recommend it for everybody looking for a great mini RC helicopter.

I created a Trex450S CF building thread here where you can find information on how I built it step by step with many photo illustrations. If you have any questions, feel free to post it there on the thread. I will be more than happy to answer it for you.

Kudos

I would like to thank GrandRC who gave me a great discount for the Trex450S CF kit and the Thunder Power eXtreme Series 2070 mAh pack. Grandrc has all the electronic and power system I used for this Trex450S build. Please visit GrandRC website here for great RC helicopter selections and excellent customer services.
